Inbound at Last: JD Logistics Deploys Zhiyuan's Spirit G2 Max in Live Warehouse Operations

Humanoid robots have filled conference stages for years. At WAIC 2026 in Shanghai on July 17, JD Logistics and Zhiyuan Robotics claimed a narrower milestone: a heavy-duty humanoid entering regular operational use inside a live courier warehouse.

The companies unveiled the Spirit G2 Max—branded in Chinese materials as 精灵G2 Max—an safety-rated heavy-load embodied robot designed for inbound logistics tasks that remain stubbornly manual even in highly automated facilities.

The gap G2 Max targets

JD Logistics operates intelligent warehouses with its "Super Brain 2.0" model and "Wolf Pack" robot matrix covering storage, picking, transport, and delivery. Outbound automation has already reduced employee daily step counts by tens of thousands, the company says.

Inbound work is different. Workers still unload trucks, sort packages, and stack pallets—bending, lifting, and placing goods hundreds or thousands of times per shift.

Spirit G2 Max is built for that lane: dual-arm manipulation, a heavy-load force-control system, and 24-hour continuous operation without overnight staffing.

Production context

Zhiyuan reported that its 15,000th general-purpose embodied robot—the Spirit G2 line—had entered mass production and deployment at the end of June. JD Logistics has publicly stated ambitions to purchase 300 million robots, 1 million autonomous vehicles, and 100,000 drones over five years.

What "regular operations" means

JD Logistics described the deployment as the first time a humanoid robot has entered regular operational use inside an actual courier warehouse—a claim that should be read as market positioning until independent throughput data appears.

Agility Robotics' Digit has moved more than 100,000 totes in a commercial GXO Logistics operation, but humanoids remain rare compared with proven mobile automation.

The competitive landscape

Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics 2, announced July 30, targets whole-body humanoid control through vision-language-action models. JD and Zhiyuan's bet is more prosaic: solve one high-friction logistics segment with a production humanoid already in mass deployment.
