Helios Lands in OCI: Quantinuum and Oracle Bet on Hybrid Quantum-AI Cloud
Quantinuum and Oracle will deploy the 98-qubit Helios trapped-ion system inside OCI, offering enterprise customers hybrid quantum-AI workloads under unified cloud governance.
Quantum meets cloud at enterprise scale
On August 11, 2026, Quantinuum (NASDAQ: QNT) and Oracle announced a multi-year strategic partnership to deploy Quantinuum's Helios quantum computer inside Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), giving OCI customers managed access to real quantum hardware alongside existing HPC and GPU infrastructure.
The deal marks one of the most significant moves yet to integrate quantum computing into a major cloud platform as a hybrid quantum-AI service rather than a standalone laboratory experiment.

What Helios brings
Helios, launched commercially in November 2025, is Quantinuum's third-generation trapped-ion quantum computer. Key specifications from the announcement:
- 98 physical qubits in a trapped-ion architecture
- Demonstrations involving 48 logical qubits
- Average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921%, exceeding the widely cited "three 9s" threshold

Helios is designed for hybrid integration with classical HPC and AI environments. Under the partnership, it will operate on-premises within OCI's US-based AI data center infrastructure, integrating with existing OCI compute, networking, storage, identity, and data services under the same governance and access controls customers already use.

Heather West, PhD, Global Quantum Research Lead at IDC, noted in the announcement: "Deploying quantum systems within private cloud environments enables organizations to integrate quantum computing into existing AI and HPC workflows through familiar cloud infrastructure and development tools, reducing barriers to adoption and making hybrid quantum-classical computing a practical part of enterprise IT."
Johannes Blaschke, Head of Scientific Computing at the Ellison Institute of Technology's GBI, highlighted the research value: having both GPUs and QPUs available within OCI could provide an all-in-one platform simplifying operation of novel hardware and helping researchers move from concept to execution.
What this does not mean yet
The partnership is a deployment and access agreement, not proof that quantum advantage has arrived for enterprise AI workloads. Oracle's forward-looking statements explicitly note that development, release, timing, and pricing of features may change. Customers will still need to identify problem classes where quantum hardware offers genuine advantage over classical methods.
