Ethereum Heze Devnet Tests Ship FOCIL and Quick Slots Fixtures

Ethereum execution specs shipped version 2.0.0 of the heze devnet test bundle with conformance cases for EIP 7805 FOCIL and EIP 8198 quick slots on the Bogota devnet fork ahead of broader client work.

Key points

  • Ethereum execution specs published tests-heze-devnet@v2.0.0 on 15 October 2026.
  • The GitHub release targets heze devnet 2 at the Bogota pseudo fork.
  • Client teams need shared fixtures before mainnet style forks land.

What changed

Ethereum execution specs published tests-heze-devnet@v2.0.0 on 15 October 2026. The GitHub release targets heze devnet 2 at the Bogota pseudo fork. It replaces the older tests-focil-devnet@v0.3.0 tag series.

The bundle exercises EIP-7805 (FOCIL) inclusion list rules and EIP-8198 (Quick Slots) fee and blob schedule changes. EIP-8198 sets a tighter base fee step and a blob target of 12 with max 18 on 12 second slots. FOCIL fixes change how blob transactions interact with inclusion list checks and widen appendability tests for raw IL entries.

Engine API versions move to engine_newPayloadV6, engine_forkchoiceUpdatedV5, and engine_getInclusionListV1. Hive consume tests now check inclusionListSatisfied. The release builds from the devnets/heze/2 branch and fills every fork through Bogota.

The tag rename moves from tests-focil-devnet@* to tests-heze-devnet@* so teams can track the wider devnet scope in one line.

Why it matters

Client teams need shared fixtures before mainnet style forks land. A named devnet test release gives execution and consensus engineers the same vectors for FOCIL and Quick Slots. That lowers the risk of shipping incompatible payload or IL handling across clients.

Wallet and rollup teams also gain early signal on blob economics under the Quick Slots constants, even while EIPs remain open in the EIP repo. Infrastructure vendors that run devnets for customers need the new Engine API surface in their test harnesses.

Who is affected

Ethereum execution client maintainers running hive or consume suites should pin this tag for heze devnet work. Layer 2 teams that depend on blob pricing models should read EIP-8198 constants in the release notes. Bridge operators who monitor inclusion lists must retest against raw byte IL rules described in the changelog.

Security reviewers should note that IL entries which fail decode are skipped in some cases. The whole payload does not always fail. That behavior differs from the prior focil devnet tag called out in the release text.

What to do next

Fetch tests-heze-devnet@v2.0.0 from the execution specs releases page. Diff your current focil devnet pin against the changelog items for IL blob skips and raw byte entries. Update hive configs to call the v6 payload path and IL v1 RPC where your stack implements them.

Track open EIP pull requests cited in the release, since specs are pinned to specific commits and may still change. Keep a copy of the full changelog URL in your fork notes so QA can trace which PR fixed each IL edge case.

What to watch

Watch execution specs issue 3783 for follow on heze devnet tags after v2.0.0. Watch EIP-7805 and EIP-8198 merge status in ethereum/EIPs. Watch client release branches that advertise heze devnet 2 support with this test bundle hash.

Watch whether rollup fee models update blob targets when devnet constants shift again before mainnet scheduling.

QA leads should store the compare URL between tests-focil-devnet@v0.3.0 and tests-heze-devnet@v2.0.0 in their release checklist. Several FOCIL verdict changes only make sense when you read the paired EIP pull requests cited inline. Document which hive consume flags your client already passes so you do not rerun a full suite blind.

Node operators running private devnets should confirm slot time stays at twelve seconds when they import Quick Slots constants from the release text. A mismatch between chain config and test vectors produces failures that look like client bugs but are really genesis table drift.

Consensus client teams should pair this tag with their own forkchoice tests. Inclusion list RPC names changed alongside execution payload versions in the same release note block.

Wallet QA should rerun blob fee UI tests against devnet constants from EIP-8198 so users do not see stale estimates after a client upgrade.
