Automate 2026 in Chicago put humanoids in their own NVIDIA sponsored pavilion while show floor reporting confirmed industrial arms remain the near term capital budget choice.

At Automate 2026 in Chicago, humanoid robots were no longer a sideshow. McCormick Place hosted more than 50,000 attendees and over 1,000 exhibitors across 450,000 square feet from June 22 to 25. For the first time, humanoids had a dedicated pavilion sponsored by NVIDIA, with more than 20 platforms demonstrating side by side.
The question in the aisles had shifted. Almost nobody was asking whether humanoids will work. They were asking how fast factories can absorb them now that a handful already clock real shifts.
Physical AI versus packaging floor reality
Show floor reporting from Packaging World noted that physical AI dominated opening day, while humanoid robots drew crowds but remain years away from production packaging lines. Industrial arms from Kawasaki, Yaskawa, and Kassow showcased practical deployments for logistics and warehouse automation. Bipedal humanoids and quadrupeds impressed onlookers but are not yet suited to production packaging lines, according to on site reporting.
The NVIDIA sponsored Humanoid Robot Pavilion featured live demos from Unitree quadrupeds, Richtech Robotics barista arms, and OpenMind powered platforms fielding questions in multiple languages. The engineering was genuine. The capital budget question for CPG operators remained: subsystems are advancing faster than walking machines earn a spot on a line.

Show coverage from humanoid.guide highlighted production milestones behind the spectacle: Figure AI's BotQ line crossing roughly one Figure 03 unit per hour, Boston Dynamics shipping electric Atlas units, Agility's Digit working commercial shifts, and Chinese platforms drawing steady crowds.
If one idea tied the keynotes together, it was physical AI: teaching robots through demonstration rather than line by line programming. NVIDIA's stack has quietly become the training layer beneath much of the field.
